PHOT 101 - Black & White Photography
Students are invited to learn the basics of digital photography. This class is for beginners seeking an introduction to both camera handling and digital image processing. Topics include the functions of a manual 35mm digital camera, principles of exposure, digital file development, and inkjet printing. Using a digital camera, students will produce original photographs in both black and white. Students will learn to use Adobe Photoshop to work with layers and use masks, and will make their own inkjet prints in class. After mastering the basics, students will work towards the completion of a final project series of 10-15 cohesive images.
PHOT 102 - Color Photography
Prerequisite: PHOT 101a minimum B or approval of instructor
“Fundamentals of Color Photography” is a class for beginners seeking to learn how to make powerful color photographs with their digital camera. Students will learn what a 35mm DSLR camera is and how to use manual camera settings.
Together we will learn the principles of exposure, digital file processing and color management. After gaining a firm foundation in the technical aspects of color management and basic color theory, students will push themselves to make images that employ color to enhance meaning and emotion. This class will include several slide lectures, photo shoots in NYC, critiques sessions, and museum visits. Students will complete this course with a portfolio of 10-15 color images
PHOT 103 - Advanced Photography
Prerequisite: PHOT 101, 102a minimum B or approval of instructor
Students propose projects that are reviewed in individual and group critiques. Members of the class must be prepared to work independently, have well formulated ideas, and be prepared to meet for group discussions
PHOT 104 - Film & Video
This course introduces students to basic video production techniques and provides an overview of film and video theory and criticism. By combining theory and hands-on exercises, students are expected to develop the technical, analytical and critical foundations necessary in the video preproduction, production and postproduction phases.
